‘NBA 2K’ Believes The Cavs Will Keep Things Close But Fall Just Short In Game 3

The Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t on the ropes quite yet, but it’s hard to envy the situation they find themselves in right now. The Cavs are down 2-0 in the 2018 NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors, and even though the whole “the series doesn’t start until the road team wins” thing looms large, the Dubs have still managed to take two games without Andre Iguodala, who might make his return on Wednesday night.

If there is reason for optimism for the Cavs, though, it’s that the series is shifting back to Cleveland for Game 3, giving them the comforts of their home floor for the next two games. We decided to see whether or not that would end up mattering using NBA 2K. If you’d like to watch how it all goes down, check out the video after the jump. If not, keep on scrolling for a recap of what the game thinks is going to occur.

It was a tight game throughout, but ultimately, the Warriors were able to come out on top to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.

It’s kind of what you’ve come to expect: Cleveland is able to use its size advantage to clean up the boards, while Golden State’s superior ball movement leads to more assists. A more detailed look at the box score shows that the Cavs have a pretty good night from behind the arc, but the volume of shots the Warriors hoist up from downtown neutralizes that.

The Cavs’ bench coming up big is a pretty interesting twist, even if it’s not quite enough. As for how the starters perform, well, you’ll never believe this but LeBron James has a big night.

Tristan Thompson’s double-double is a nice touch, and while George Hill having 21 points is something the Cavs would certainly love, a point guard accruing two assists is less than ideal. The Warriors, on the other hand, do what they do best: Let Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Steph Curry shoulder the load on offense, as the trio combine for 74 points.

A fun final note is that the game predicts Iguodala will finally make his return and give the Warriors 29 solid minutes. Perhaps that won’t happen and his absence throws this whole thing out of sorts, but for now, NBA 2K foresees the Cavaliers having to dig out of a 3-0 hole if they are going to win a championship this year.
