‘Deadpool 2’ Hid Another Notable ‘X-Men’ Villain In The Background Of Its Mutant Prison

Fox

To celebrate Deadpool 2: the Uncut Cut screening that will take place at Comic-Con 2018, makeup artist Bill Corso wanted to share some of the behind-the-scenes treats you might’ve missed when the film was in theaters. Yeah, we got Black Tom Cassidy and Juggernaut on the big screen from the X-Men rogues gallery, but that was not it. In the Ice Box prison sequence, there are a few in the background that could look familiar and one that was a major thorn in the side for Deadpool’s film rival, Wolverine.

As he outlines on the post, Corso and others dug through the “approved” X-Men universe for characters they could use as inspiration:

To celebrate the Comic Con showing of our special, Mega Fan only, ‘Deadpool 2: the Unrated Cut’, I’ve decided to show the, blink and you’ll miss them, Mutant Villains of the Ice Box Prison. Some characters from the Marvel Universe hidden here are Omega Red, and various others from sifting through the FOX approved X-Men Universe.

For those unfamiliar with Omega Red, he made his debut as part of the opening issues of the mammoth X-Men series from the early nineties with Jim Lee providing art.

Marvel

The character had a history with Wolverine during his Weapon X days, but was a certified dirtbag long before he became an augmented mutant freak according to Marvel:

During the late 1950’s or early 1960’s, Arkady Gregorivich Rossovich served in the USSR’s Spetsnaz (border patrol commandos), secretly raping & murdering young girls whenever the opportunity presented itself. While assigned to a remote Siberian town, Rossovich’s crimes were discovered, & his fellow soldiers attempted to execute him via a gunshot to the head. His mutant nature allowed him to survive the wound, &, after a formal court-martial, he was drafted into the USSR’s super-soldier project, undergoing various torturous enhancements, which, among other effects, turned his skin chalk-white. By 1968, Rossovich, now dubbed Omega Red, was stationed in Berlin, East Germany, where the USSR transformed him into a cyborg via implanted retractable tentacles of radioactive Carbonadium (a less durable but more malleable imitation of Adamantium), created by a Carbonadium Synthesizer, or “C-Synth.”

So Omega Red is right there waiting to show up in the upcoming X-Force film if they want him. They’ll probably go Mr. Sinister just because, but a bad guy needs henchman, right? Don’t just waste this!
