WARNING: Possible spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 ahead
When it comes to fan theories, the chances of them coming to fruition are pretty low. Things can get very wild and confusing, like when someone suggests that Tony Stark is the Soul stone in Infinity War or that Boba Fett is Supreme Leader Snoke in the new Star Wars movies. But every once in a while, a theory will come along that sounds plausible and pretty interesting. Fans of Westworld know about this, and the creators of the show took it and ran with it.
The same can’t necessarily be said about Marvel and the creative minds behind Avengers: Infinity War or its sequel. It all seems to be fairly set in stone at this point, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t guess what will happen next.
As you can tell by the shameless headline, this theory has a bit to do with Doctor Strange and his actions in Avengers: Infinity War. His sacrifice of the Time Stone for Tony Stark’s life and his look into all of the possible futures create some possibilities for the next film. Seeing how Strange has used the Eye of Agamotto to control time in his own film, changing the outcome of Dormammu’s invasion in the process. The point here is that he controlled time and even though his moment in Infinity War seems short, it could represent an infinite amount of time for Strange to do whatever he needs to do to ensure the one time the heroes win against Thanos becomes a reality.
That’s where this theory from Reddit comes into play, also clearing up a supposed plot hole from The Winter Soldier and explaining why Nick Fury acted how he did at the very end of Infinity War. According to the theory, we might end up seeing Strange in Captain Marvel, and it has ties to Infinity War:
Doctor strange knows what happens in the future, he sets it up in fact. He knew that Thanos had to snap his fingers at that exact right time and under all these certain conditions for them to win. He’s setting up Captain Marvel’s return to Earth. I believe he’ll appear in the CM movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel. Nick Fury, knowing about Steven Strange lists him as an ally to shield which of course is how Hydra knows about him despite him being a neurosurgeon (anyone who is an ally of SHIELD is a threat to HYDRA). He warns him of an event in the future [referring] to the people turning to dust without warning, this is why Fury’s instant reaction to seeing Maria Hill turn to ash was to run to the pager, but what our good friend Sorcerer Supreme didn’t mention was the fact that he does not survive hence the “Mother Fu…” at the very end. We should also take note that the way he says it isn’t [panicked] or scared, he’s confident that Strange knows what he’s doing.
As far as fan theories go, it could make a lot of sense. We know the Quantum Realm comes into play with Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel. We also know that there will likely be some time travel craziness in Avengers 4. Also, how could Fury be sure that Captain Marvel wasn’t one of the disappeared thanks to Thanos’ snap when he grabs his beeper from the car? It’s an excellent way to think.
Strange could’ve done a lot more than just look into the future and put his faith in Tony Stark. It kinda makes you hopeful that this one happens, even if it is just a stinger in the credits.
